So I was going to do a really meaningful well thought out post the other day, but then Pokemon happened and I kinda haven't stopped spazzing about it.
SO
AMAZING
YOU
GUYS.
And deserves its own ranting post later.
Not to mention the dub of the second half of the Full Battle premiered today \o/ GOOD TIMES. I've done nothing but RP and draw after work for the last couple days, And with Thanksgiving just around the corner it is HECTIC AS HELL trying to organize all the dogs who are sleeping over for the weekend.
ONE THE NOTE of pretending to have a social life: Going to get my hair done and attempt to spend the evening chilling with Red \o/ We'll see how that goes. Though really I just want to come home early and draw more Pokemon. lolo priorities.
ALSO DON'T FORGET sign up for a christmas card 8|b |

I'll admit it.
I spam Facebook because I have nothing better going on in my life. I have become that which I hate.
Oh yeah, and I'm spamming LJ too.

| Bad commissioner: paintballberfection/Christopher Watson |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|09:06 am] |
He replied to my thread in the Job Services forum and asked me to draw a pair of cyborgs/androids for his paintball site. I happily agreed to draw for him and reminded him to check the pricing list and my ToS (in case he can't afford it or something, he can tell me and I can give him a small discount, it's my first commission). I sent him sketches for approval and everything went smoothly so far: I made some mistakes but I corrected them as soon as I can.
I completed the lineart for the (very rough) sketch I gave him, and sent him a screencap/low res preview of what I've done so far. He didn't respond for some days, which I find odd since he's been prompt with responses before. I send him an e-mail asking if he's received the preview.
Here's where the BEWARE part comes in. He tells me that he's "found a [sic] artist" - wait, what? He has been hiring others behind my back? At this point my scam radar goes nuts. He may not be paying the others for the work they're doing as well. Oh wait, he's suckered not just one, but multiple artists.
I e-mailed him again, stating that he should pay everyone for whatever work they have already done.
This was the response I got and I'm not sure what to make of it.
ಠ_ಠ Yes, I know I should have gotten him to pay first before doing anything, lesson learned, etc.
lol edit: Some people have called him out and he's hiding/flagging everything now.

| Question to Commissioners |
[Nov. 7th, 2009|11:29 pm] |
I'm posting this for a friend of mine since he was recently screwed over by this but was very unsure of what to do except sell his stuff to make the necessary funds to cover for the commission.
What do you do if you ask for a commission from someone and have already sent in your references (in hopes of hearing an estimated quote as a reply), and then find out a couple days later that the artist already finished the art and sent you a teaser pic AND a quote for the finished piece.
What would you do as the commissioner? What would be the more mature way to handle this?
~K.
::EDIT:: I'd like to edit this with some extra details that I have forgotten to mention before posting this.
My friend asked for a 2-character image. One of the characters was of an orb with a sigma symbol on it. The orb counted as an additional character ($45 value) according to the artist. He hadn't anticipated that his orb-character would cost so much which is why he's trying to sell his stuff to cover for the commission. The commission itself is already finished and ready to be sent to my friend upon receipt of the funds. I've only been told that the artist was "demanding" payment for the work he had already done on the image although there was no contract or negotiation.
I have been trying to get a hold of my friend and will get him to send me screenshots of all the communications that he and the artist shared regarding the commission so that this post won't sound like a "he said, she said" situation.
Also, I'd like to apologize for not adding this extra information before I had posted this. Please forgive my ignorance. ^^;

A lovely morning where I actually make it out of bed before 11:00 (yay!), only to be greeted with a cup of tea and some zucchini bread Hudson's mom sent home with us at last night's dinner. The Kitayziz was bag hunting: she gets in a plastic bag and then attacks anyone who comes near, so I have a bloody index finger right now. I'll get her back later though.
Today I'm going to start transferring the image of the syringes/towers onto the background that should be done drying. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this goes smoothly. It'll probably have to come home with me when I go to Atlanta in 2 weeks for Thanksgiving and my dad's 60th bday. I hope it fits in my carry-on because I really don't want to check any bags. I've heard they're charging $50 a bag on some airlines and I think that's just ridiculous.
Anyway, if you're at all interested in keeping up with sales, sneak previews and the latest events at Octopus Parlour, please add me on these venues:

Hrm... meh
I have taken all my dreads out and dyed my hair with a special dye for dark hair which is supposed to lighten and colour in one step. It's supposed to be a plumy reddy violety colour. Which it is at the roots which was my own natural hair colour all virgin undyed. Then the lengths are various degrees of faded black, which now are a rich dark black with a slight purple hint in the light. It blends from the top to the bottom quite nicely i suppose.
So then I went to buy a synthetic weft in a burgundy colour i decided was best. They didn't have synthetic, so i spent £28.99 on 14 inches of human burgundy. They didn't have any any longer because "it is hard to find human hair in this colour" he says as though someone actually grew it in the colour they are selling it to me, and it wasn't just dyed, and that's why my hands don't get a red tinge on them when I am working with it, or something.
So I have double sewn it and back combed 2 sections of it. Then I cornrowed round my head twice and stitched it on. The problem I am having is that there seems to be so much of my own hair that you can't see the dreads in amongst it at all. I can't quite work out what to do about this, but at least can stop worrying that I am thinning! I didn't really think i was but you should have seen the hair balls i accumulated getting my dreads out. Still they hadn't been properly out since the beginning of august! ouch ouch and more ouch is all i can say to that!
I was actually amazed at how long my own hair is, it's no wonder that even a blanket stitch braid looks naff!
I think this is all convincing me to just get my own hair dreaded. I have even chosen someone to do it (wool hair gracey) i just need to find the cash. I might as well do it. I am not planning on leaving this job for about 5 years i don't think, so i may as well have dreads for 5 years and then cut my hair off and have it short. I just need to get it the colour I want it. I have no idea how to go about doing that. I think maybe in about 6 weeks I will bleach bath the lengths of my hair, and then try putting a deep reddish brown colour on. |

| YAY!! |
[Nov. 9th, 2009|11:59 am] |
Today is Monday and that's always good, because it's the start of my days off from the diner and my time to work on my own stuff, instead of pimping myself out to sell someone else's crap. So a big yay for that, even if I did sleep in to 11:00. When I do that, all I can think is: only 6 hours of sunlight left.
But today I also had my first sale in my online shop which was awesome! I was starting to think it was invisible or something. I sell a lot on ShanaLogic and moderately on etsy, but I was starting to think having my own shop hooked up to my website was a bad idea. It doesn't seem like it would be, since I feel like there are people who don't want to have to join etsy just to buy my work. So this pays for about 75% of the shop fees, which is totally rad.
Anyway, I have to get off the computer and get some work done. Happy Monday! |

Things are looking up even if they are temporary. My father came to visit me today despite the fact that I had work so he could fix my (non-cranking) car. We tried to jump the battery, but the car was refusing to run and we even had to have it towed by to SCAD one night because of the poor little car's problems. Apparently the battery was so corroded that it ate threw a wire and had destroyed that battery. My dad replaced the wire and the battery (he's a magic man with cars), and now my car cranks and moves rather well! Hopefully it'll stay alive for a few more years...
The doctor said I do have pneumonia, but he also prescribed new and more powerful antibiotics than the ones I was taking. And now I can take these with no side effects! I'm feeling much better already despite my sore, achy body and my tight, painful lungs.
Regardless of how sick I was and how foul mooded I was, Dethklok picked me up, as always. I arrived at the venue at 2pm, the first person there, and sat on the steps. I saw people unload the bus and got to squeal each time I thought I saw Brendon. Finally others arrived at 3pm, so I had someone to talk to. I began making friends quickly, so the next three hours flew by. Finally at 6:15, the doors opened. Since I was the first person in line, I went to the stage and stood front and center on the bar. I didn't move for the rest of the night. Yes, I fought for that spot through High on Fire, some other crappy band whose name I forgot, Mastodon (epic!), and finally Dethklok. I was two feet from Brendon, and being near my inspiration was enough to make me high on life.
I think I had one of the most powerful moments in my life there. My favorite song from Dethalbum II, and my favorite song that Dethklok has ever done, is The Gears. There are parts in the song where the Klokateers swear their lives and loyalty to Dethklok, and Brendon literally looked at the crowd and let us pledge.
You've conquered pain We've conquered pain You've conquered fear We've conquered fear You fear not your mortality Become a GEAR We are the GEARS
That back and forth while being within an arm's reach of Brendon Small inspired me so much that I don't give a damn how shitty my life has been up until this point. I was reminded again of why I love Brendon so much: he went to college for music, doubted himself so much he didn't go for a job in it, and ended up having a stroke of genius in making Home Movies at age 24. Years later, he hit gold again with Metalocalypse, but his life has been a series of gains and losses that inspires someone who has the same lifestyle--me, of course. I feel like I gain an inch and lose a mile, but some days, like yesterday at that concert, I fly for miles and get ahead of all of the bad things.
So yes, I don't care how crappy it is to say my hero in life is Brendon Small. I suppose that makes me a simple person. But I admire a man like that who never gives up his life dream. He's 34 and finally making a musical hit on the world. Besides the point that Metalocalypse got me through my biggest depression in life when it debuted in 2007, my first year of college.
So am I the biggest Dethklok fan? I don't know. Am I the biggest Brendon Small fan? Again, I don't know. But I can tell you that despite being rather comedic, those two influences have changed my life.
We fear not our mortality We'll serve to the best of our ability We give our lives to our masters We vow to smite our enemies
The GEARS really does sum up my life. |

[Nov. 4th, 2009|10:19 pm] |
On FA, where I found her: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/isabellaprice/
( Another entry about her on here, http://community.livejournal.com/artists_beware/272090.html i figure every entry counts (?) so I'm making my own entry :3 )
It all began, really, around the beginning of July, when the artists in question posted a journal saying that fursuit head bases were $35, and quoted from the journal, July 11th: "Turnaround time is 1 week-a month. :)". So i thought 'What a deal! And her examples are seem like good stuff too' So I inquired about shipping (to Canada, i made sure to mention this in my very first note to her), $15, great sounds reasonable I guess, I really have no concept of these things, and she responded timely and friendly enough that I decided to continue.
From July 11th-July 21st we exchanged notes confirming details, nothing seemed amiss, she responded quickly enough, I'm a busy person so if there was a delay I never took notice. I never bothered to set a due date at this point, as I wanted it for Halloween, and what with it being July and a turnaround quoted as of being a week to a month, I figured at very worst I'd get it late September, still plenty of time to finish my full suit.
At about this time is when my situation began to sour (now that I look back anyway, at the time I was still very optimistic), I sent payment on July 29th... and heard nothing. ( Read more... )
